COMCARE’s Intake and Assessment Center (CIAC) handles a variety of calls from Sedgwick County residents. Others who call include concerned family members, mental health professionals, physicians, hospitals, schools, community agencies and the judicial system.
COMCARE’s Intake and Assessment Center is the primary point of entry for those county residents seeking access to COMCARE’s mental health and substance use services. Qualified professionals answer calls from individuals inquiring about services, gather information, and arrange for an intake assessment if needed. Other community resources may be recommended depending on the needs identified by the caller. Once it is determined that COMCARE is the proper agency to best meet the individual needs, the person will be offered an appointment or walk in hours for further assessment. Upon arrival at COMCARE’s Intake and Assessment Center they will meet with a therapist to determine treatment options.
This program’s primary responsibility is to facilitate the first appointment for those who are not already established clients of a COMCARE program. In order to gather the most vital information about a person and obtain a commitment to the treatment process, it is best for the person seeking services to make the call themselves. The initial screening for services includes questions regarding problems being experienced, type of services desired, a brief history of any mental health/substance use services, demographics, county of residence, and insurance coverage if applicable. COMCARE accepts Medicare, Medicaid, most private insurances, self-pay and utilizes a sliding scale fee.
Our goal is to make intake assessments available as quickly as possible. Those who call Intake and Assessment with more urgent needs may be referred to Crisis Intervention Services. Conversely, Crisis Intervention Services may refer callers who need COMCARE services, but are not in need of emergency services to Intake and Assessment.
Screening Assessment, Referral & Medical Services COMCARE’s Intake and Assessment Center employs a team of case managers, therapists and medical professionals to assess individuals in need to help determine the best course of treatment to help improve their quality of life.
Hours of Operation Phones are answered Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For after-hours calls, messages may be left on the answering machine, with calls being returned the next business day. If a quicker response is needed, the caller is instructed to call COMCARE’s Crisis Intervention Services hotline at 316-660-7500.
