The Wichita - Sedgwick County Exploited and Missing Child Unit is a joint program comprised of social workers from the Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services and investigators from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, and the Wichita Police Department.

The mission of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit (EMCU) is to investigate child sexual abuse, missing and abducted children, identify offenders and present evidence for the prosecution of violators of the laws of the State of Kansas with the least amount of trauma to the child victims, and to provide services and facilitate resources to the victims and their families.

Another aspect and duty of the EMCU is the identification and investigation of internet exploitation of and internet crimes against children.  Duties include the detection and identification of sexual predators using the internet to lure children into unlawful activities.

The investigation phase includes interviewing the victim, all witnesses, and the perpetrator. Because of the sensitivity of these cases, investigators form the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, Wichita Police Department, and SRS have been specially trained. This is to reduce the trauma to the children and to facilitate a thorough investigation in this field.

If you have question or comments or need additional information about EMCU please feel free to contact us at (316) 337-6552 or e-mail Lt. Russell Leeds or Sgt. Amy Tracy.
