Public works consists of the highway department, stormwater management department, noxious seed department, and the household hazardous waste (HHW) facility.
The highway department is responsible for maintaining 604 miles of roads and 589 bridges within the unincorporated areas of Sedgwick County to ensure safe passage through our county.
The stormwater management department oversees drainage improvement projects and maintains certain watercourses to help minimize flooding, erosion and property damage.
The noxious weeds department is responsible for the control and eradication of noxious weeds on all county property.
The HHW facility is a place Sedgwick County residents can dispose of old chemicals and household hazardous waste free of charge. It offers a way to get rid of old chemicals and materials to help prevent them from getting into the waste stream and polluting the environment.
Public works' aggressive approach to preventive maintenance helps make Sedgwick County a great place to live.
