LOCAL FEE REMITTANCE
PROCEDURES
Persons using the fee remittance advice system for the
payment of service fees will follow the following procedures:

Download the “Sheriff Fee Advice” spreadsheet.

Download Instructions for Sheriff Fee Invoice:
The Sheriff Fee Invoice is a Microsoft Excel
spreadsheet. You will need Microsoft Excel installed on your
PC in order to open, view and enter information into the form.
Download the Sheriff Fee Invoice by clicking
the link below and selecting to save the document to your local
drive. The spreadsheet should download to your PC to the
directory you specify. The file name is
SHERIFF FEE ADVICE.xls.

Follow the data entry, copying and emailing
instructions contained in the spreadsheet.

Bring the papers and the remittance advice to room
829 along with one check for the total amount, prior to filing with
the Clerk of the District Court. After the payment of fees filers
will be responsible for taking the papers to the Clerk’s office for
filing with the Court.

IN STATE SHERIFF FEE
PAYMENT PROCEDURES
-
Payment by Check/Money Order—at the time of
filing, each paper will have a check attached to the top copy in the
amount of $5.00 payable to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
Checks will have the case number of the action the paper is being
filed under listed on them.

Payment by Cash—prior to the time of filing
cash payments will be accepted in the Sheriff’s offices located in
room 829 of the courthouse. After collection of the fees the papers
will be stamped, a receipt issued and returned to the filer who will
take them to the clerk’s office to be filed. Exact change will be
required.

Fee Exempt—filings which are exempt from fees
will have that fact noted on the top copy prior to filing.
IN-STATE FEE FOR
SERVICE EXCEPTIONS
The following Kansas Civil Process is exempt from
the $5.00 filing fee set forth in HB 2293 pertaining to Writs and
Documents filed under Chapter 60 and 61 of the Kansas Statutes
Annotated:
-
Protection from Abuse papers.
-
Protection from Stalking papers.
-
Post Decree Motions in divorce cases.
-
Probate orders filed under KSA Chapter 59 for
Mental, Drug and Alcohol Commitments.
-
Documents and Writs filed under Chapters 21
(Criminal), Chapter 38 (Child in Need of Care), etc.
-
Alias writs and documents.
OUT OF COUNTY SHERIFF
FEE PAYMENT PROCEDURES
- Each paper that is filed in the 18th Judicial
District for service outside of Sedgwick County, but within the
state of Kansas, should have any fees attached made payable to the
Sheriff’s Office of the jurisdiction in which it is to be served.
- Papers filed in Kansas judicial districts outside of 18th
Judicial District which are to be served in Sedgwick County, should
have any fees attached made payable to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s
Office
OUT OF STATE SHERIFF
FEE PAYMENT PROCEDURES

At the time of filing, each paper will have a
check/money order attached to the top copy in the amount of $50.00
payable to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. Checks will have
the case number listed on them, when available.

Documents to be served should be sent to the

Documents should be accompanied by the following:

A self addressed stamped envelope.
-
Complete instructions for the completion of the
return of service.

A cover letter that lists information on the
person being served (address, phone, etc.) and contact
information for the person issuing the documents.
OUT OF STATE FEE FOR
SERVICE EXCEPTIONS
The following Out of State Civil Process is exempt
from the $50.00 fee currently charged by the Sedgwick County
Sheriff’s Office.

Protective Orders which meet the requirements of
The Violence Against Women’s Act 18 U.S.C. 2265.
-
Other exemptions are made on a case by case basis.
