The following programs are
available to older adults who are residents
of Sedgwick County. Contact the Department on
Aging at 660-7298 for more information about these
services.
AMERICAN RED CROSS MIDWAY-KANSAS
CHAPTER - Senior Medical Transportation Program
To enable adults age 60 and older to
remain in their home, this program provides rides to
medically related appointments, with special emphasis on
those referred by social and medical services’ case
workers.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES, INC. - Adult Day
Services Program
This program provides adults age 60 and
older and their caregivers an adult day care service
that not only provides respite for the caregiver but
also socialization, wellness monitoring, physical
activities, and other supportive services such as case
management, medication administration, restorative
nursing, transportation and meals for the older
individual.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES, INC. - Foster
Grandparent Program
This program is designed to engage
persons age 60 and older, particularly those with
limited incomes; in volunteer service to meet critical
community needs in the schools, day care programs and
the like; and to provide a high-quality experience that
will enrich the lives of the volunteers and the children
receiving the service.
GOOD GRIEF OF KANSAS, INC. - Widowed
Persons Service
A support group is available to provide
emotional and educational support services to adults age
60 and older dealing with grief and mourning as a
normal, appropriate, and desired reaction to the death
of a spouse/loved one.
GUADALUPE CLINIC - Health Screening
and Prescription Voucher Program
Health screenings, health education,
referrals, and vouchers for prescription medications are
made available through this program to low-income
individuals who are age 60 and older and residing in
Wichita and Sedgwick County. Health education and
screening services include: routine blood pressure,
blood sugar and weight checks; health and nutrition
assessments; and health education presentations.
MEDICAL SERVICE BUREAU - Plus Medical
Services for Seniors
Knowledgeable staff will assist adults
age 60 and older in finding low-cost prescriptions
through pharmaceutical drug programs and also will
provide limited assistance purchasing prescription
medication, medical supplies, eye exams, and glasses.
SEDGWICK COUNTY DEPARTMENT ON AGING -
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
RSVP staff match adults age 55 years of
age or older with appropriate and meaningful volunteer
opportunities in non-profit agencies in Sedgwick County,
taking into account the volunteers' skills and the needs
of the organizations.
SENIOR SERVICES, INC. - Senior
Employment Program
This program provides older workers with
employment opportunities by matching qualified workers
age 55 and older with available job openings.
Assistance in training, resume writing and one-on-one
consultation also is available.
UNITED METHODIST OPEN DOOR –
Commodity Supplemental Food Delivery Program
This program will provide commodity
delivery to eligible adults age 60 and older. It will
assist those who lack transportation to pick up their
own commodities and others who are unable to buy food
temporarily or on a permanent basis.
WICHITA INDOCHINESE CENTER - Asian
Outreach
Asian Outreach provides outreach services to eligible
Asian seniors by meeting the unique needs caused by
language barriers, relocation to this country and
cultural differences. Through this program, adults age
60 and older may utilize services such as
transportation, translation, English and citizenship
classes, and case management, as well as participate in
activities available at the Wichita Indochinese Center.
