"Saving, Collecting or Hoarding?"   Steps to Understanding Hoarding

"Saving, Collecting or Hoarding?"   Steps to Understanding Hoarding is scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Wichita Marriott.  This is a one-day workshop on hoarding.  The cost of the conference is $50 and includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.  For more information please see our "Saving, Collecting or Hoarding?" conference brochure.  The registration form will be e-mailed in the next few weeks.  For questions please call me at 660-5230 or 800-367-7298. 


Catch a Wave to the Future

A unique upcoming conference for senior center, recreation center, and community center directors along with government leaders is available to you if you are interested in learning more about serving adults age 55 and older. The Senior & Community Centers: Catch a Wave to the Future Conference and Networking will provide information on model senior/community centers across the nation, grant writing and fundraising, baby boomer trends and how they can impact your center, health promotion and evidenced-based program opportunities. This conference is the first of its kind in Kansas and we invite you to attend to learn about how you can "Catch a Wave to the Future" and prepare your center for the changing needs of the older population. The conference will be held on March 13, 2008 at the Airport Hilton in Wichita, Kansas. The fee is $35 and this includes a certificate of attendance, the conference, continental breakfast, and lunch. A block of rooms are available at the hotel for those of you interested in spending the night in Wichita.
 


Smoke AlarmFREE Smoke Detectors for Seniors

Sedgwick County Department on Aging / Central Plains Area Agency on Aging Minor Home Repair program was awarded the Kansas Injury and Fire Prevention Program grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The grant will allow for 10 year lithium battery operated smoke alarms, and hard wired hearing impaired alarms. We have partnered with the City of Wichita, and volunteers to educated seniors of potential fire hazards in their homes and to provide them with adequate smoke alarm coverage.

  • Must be 65 years of age and older

  • Reside in Wichita

  • Homeowner or live with Homeowner

If interested, applications can be picked up at your local Neighborhood City Hall or by contacting Neola at 660-5128.
