Sedgwick County Transportation (SCT) provides specialized transportation to eligible customers:

  • Older adults and their caregivers

  • Persons with physical disabilities

  • Medicaid recipients

  • And others

Applicants must be six years of age or older.  Riders under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Services are limited to funding availability.  SCT does not provide emergency transportation, transportation to nursing home residents, or rural origination to rural destination transportation.

SCT is a resource for information on all transportation services in the area and makes referrals.

Federal, state and local funding sources subsidize rides to make transportation affordable.  Customer co-payment is $3.00 one way.  No refunds are provided.

VENDORS

SCT provides some service directly in rural Sedgwick County, and contracts remaining service with seven vendors to provide transportation in Wichita and rural Sedgwick County.  These vendors include ABC Taxi, American Cab, First Class, KETCH, Thunder Enterprises, Timber Lines and Wisdom Travels.  Vehicles include sedans, taxi cabs, and wheelchair accessible minivans and buses.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The SCT application gathers information necessary to determine program eligibility, appropriate funding source(s), co-payment (if any), and special needs.  An individual must be determined eligible prior to service.  Information provided in the application is kept strictly confidential.  To obtain an application, call (316) 660-5150 or 1-800-367-7298, or click on the link below.  Once an individual is determined eligible, SCT sends a confirmation letter indicating eligible funding sources, co-payment information and how to purchase a ride card.

A “no show” is when SCT makes a scheduled pick up and the rider:

  • is not at the designated site, or

  • refuses the ride, or

  • does not call to cancel the ride within one hour of the scheduled pick-up time.

Rider "No-shows are subject to a $5 fee. If two or more “no shows” occur, service is suspended for 30 calendar days. At the end of the 30 day period, services may be reinstated and will be subject to the same two “no shows” policy. Circumstances which are exceptions to this policy and do NOT count as “no shows” include:

  • Customer called SCT to cancel the ride but the vendor providing the ride did not get the message.
