Nitrates
Nutrients are essential for life to exist and continue to develop.
Nitrates are a combination of nitrogen and oxygen in an organic form. These can be broken down and utilized by plants to a certain degree, but are harmful in
large concentrations because they can increase the amount of aquatic plant growth
to a level that can't be sustained in the body of water without
affecting other aspects of the ecosystem. The recommended
value for nitrates is 44 parts per
million (ppm).
