Residential and Service Center

The Residential Center located at 623 E. Elm is a highly-structured 75 bed coed residential facility that emphasizes intense supervision and accountability and that monitors the offender's daily activities in the community and in treatment.  All residents are expected to maintain full-time employment, placement in educational/vocational programming in the community, or they are expected to be in treatment.  Emphasis is placed on mastering daily living skills, budgeting of personal income, completing court ordered requirements and preparing for eventual re-entry into community living.  An offender's average length of stay at the Residential Center is 110 days.

The Service Center located at 622 E. Central provides supervision, case management and intervention services to assigned offenders from the Residential Center and the Intensive Supervision Program.  Services are individualized based on the needs of the offender and are designed to reduce the risk of their reoffending and/of violating the terms of probation and being sent to prison.  Services include outpatient substance abuse treatment, job preparation/job seek, cognitive skills, mental health assessments and individual and group counseling to improve anger management and problem solving skills.

Typical Adult Client Profile

Typical adult client profile in the Sedgwick County Department of Corrections are those offenders whose crimes are burglary, possession of cocaine, forgery and/or theft.

Approximately 75% of our clientele are male, of which 58% are Caucasian. The majority of clients are single with an average age in the mid-20's. Clients usually have committed prior offenses and approximately half of our offenders have a high school education.

Offenders are normally received as a result of a revocation hearing from Adult Probation or during sentencing for a new crime.

Sedgwick County Youth Aftercare Program (SCYP)

A 20-bed residential facility for male juvenile offenders leaving state-operated juvenile correctional facilities. The purpose of the program is to assist juveniles prepare for independent living. Youth apply to come to the program and receive assistance in finding and maintaining jobs, saving money and learning to take care of themselves in a supervised setting for 3 to 6 months.
