Since noon today, this office has received three (3) complaints from citizens who have been contacted by phone and who have been told that their SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER has been stolen and the anonymous caller is attempting to help the citizen prevent fraudulent use of the citizen’s identification.

The scam caller demands information from the citizen including routing and account numbers listed on the bottom portion of the citizen’s personal checks. One scam caller identified his employer as a global security agency.

As a reminder: Never give out personal financial information over the phone unless you have initiated the call to a reputable business that you have worked with in the past.

The calls received today by the District Attorney were all from senior citizens in Wichita, however, any individual could be the target of these scams.
