Nola Tedesco Foulston, District Attorney

Criminal Media Release

July 26, 2004

District Attorney Nola Tedesco Foulston announces that a homicide cold case will be charged by the Eighteenth Judicial District Attorney’s Office after diligent work by Wichita Police Department Homicide Detectives.  Charges will be filed today against Achaz Alford, DOB 7/22/80, for Premeditated First Degree Murder, Rape, Aggravated Criminal Sodomy, Aggravated Burglary and Aggravated Robbery.

On the morning of November 12, 1999, Wichita Police Officers were called to an apartment at 888 S. Hydraulic where Tina Jo Frederick, a 22-year-old Wichita woman, was found murdered in her home.  While Detectives worked the case diligently, no suspects were identified at that time.  The case became a “cold case” for more than four years.

In February of this year, a communication was received by the District Attorney’s Office and forwarded to the Wichita Police Department Homicide Division.  The communication was linked to an unsolved homicide. The Wichita Police Department Homicide Division began pursuing and investigating this communication which led to the filing of these charges.  Mr. Alford is incarcerated on an unrelated matter and will have a first appearance on this case at a future date.

The Wichita Police Department deserves credit for diligently pursuing all leads brought to their attention from numerous sources in an effort to insure the safety of our community.
