Election Officers
Apply for Election Worker Position
An Election Officer is a Sedgwick County voter or
Sedgwick County High School student (age 16 or 17) who has been assigned to be
a member of an Election Board. The Election Board
consists of a Supervising Judge and at least two other Election Officers
assigned to each of Sedgwick County’s 63 voting places located to
serve specific geographic areas for voters on Election Day.
The Election Officers help process voters at their assigned voting place on
election day.Qualifications for Election Officers:

Resident of Sedgwick County
-
Registered to vote at current address
-
Affiliated as Democratic or Republican (for Primary
elections only)
-
Interest in providing service to the community
An Election Officer must be able to. . .

Complete two (2) hours of training prior to each
election worked

Follow written and oral instructions
-
Find names quickly in an alphabetic list
-
Assist in lifting 50 pounds
-
Work amiably with others
-
Be Flexible in job duties
All Election Officers are to. . .

Help open and close the polls

Give assistance to voters

Take turns working each station as Greeter,
Check-in Clerk, or Machine Clerk

Follow the Supervising Judge’s job rotation schedule

Be friendly, impartial and non-partisan in their
Election Day duties

sure machines and supplies have been delivered and everything is in order
for Election Day

voting place at 4:45 a.m. on Election Day and where the voting machines are
stored

Picks up election supplies
at the election office on Monday afternoon

Reviews all information
provided to make the job easier

Notes all Monday Morning
Advance Voters in the Roster
On Election Day . . .

Sets up a lunch, rest, and
job rotation schedule

solver for Voters and Election Officers

Returns election results and
other materials to the election office after the polls close
The Greeter . . .

Greets each voter and checks that the person is at the
right voting place

Refers voters to the Sample Ballot and offers to show
how to vote on the voting machine

Answers questions the voter may have
The Check-In Clerk . . .

Asks each voter to state name and address

Verifies each voter’s registration in the Poll Book

Requests voter to sign the Poll Book

Gives voter an identification slip for access to the
voting machine or paper ballot table
The Machine Clerk. . .

Takes voter's identification slip if voter chooses to
vote by machine

Sets the voting machine for use

Answers questions the voter may have
The Provisional Ballot Judge…

Takes voter’s identification slip if voter chooses
to vote by paper

Provides correct ballot to paper ballot voters

Instructs voter on use of the ballot counter

Determines correct ballot or voting place for
voters whose information is not located in the Poll Book or has changed
Training Sessions are held approximately two (2)
weeks before each election. Class assignments are mailed with appointment
cards. Training is mandatory for working on Election Day.Hours:
Election Day Polling Places –
- Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Election Officers report to their assigned work site on Election Day
at the time scheduled on their appointment cards, and remain until all
duties are completed and the Supervising Judge releases them
- Each worker must provide for his or her own lunch, drinks, and snacks
to be consumed at the voting place – workers are not allowed to leave the
Polling Place until all duties are completed and the Supervising Judge
releases them
Advance Vote Centers –

Voting is open from 12 noon to 7:00 p.m. on
weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays
-
Election Officers report to their assigned work
site at the times scheduled on their appointment cards, and remain until
all closing duties are completed

Each worker must provide for his or her own lunch,
drinks, and snacks to be consumed at the Advance Vote Center – workers
are not allowed to leave the Advance Vote Center until all duties are
completed
