Explosive Materials Storage
A permit shall be required to store any quantity of explosive material, fireworks, or pyrotechnic special effects materials in a structure, building, part thereof or appurtenance thereto, when such activity is located within the Sedgwick County Fire District.
Storage in single family residential occupancies of smokeless propellant, black powder, and small arm primers for personal use, not for resale and in accordance with Section 3306 of the 2003 International Fire Code do not require a storage permit
A Storage Permit Application must be completed and presented to the Sedgwick County Fire Department 14 days before delivery of any explosive material, fireworks, or pyrotechnic special effects materials.
Upon issuance, the permit is not transferable to another applicant or site and is required to be visually posted at the site. It shall be surrendered upon request to the representative of the Sedgwick County Fire Department when permit conditions or fire code requirements are violated.
The property location where the material will be stored must comply with all applicable zoning requirements. Except where retail sales of fire works are permitted by local ordinance, heavy industrial zoning is usually required,
Explosive storage permits are only valid for a specified time frame not to exceed 12 successive calendar months.
