Free Blood Pressure Checks Every Saturday 10 a.m. - Noon
Over
37 million people in the United States have high blood pressure. Because there
may be no obvious symptoms, it can go undetected for years. Called "the
silent killer," uncontrolled hypertension can cause stroke, heart attack,
kidney failure, eye damage, circulatory problems and death.
Recognizing a need to provide the citizens of Sedgwick County with an opportunity to monitor their blood pressure, a countywide hypertension screening program called REACH was developed in 1982. Cooperating in the project are the Sedgwick County Division of the American Heart Association, the Sedgwick County Fire Department, the Wichita Fire Department and the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.
This program offers free blood pressure screenings to the public every Saturday between 10 a.m. -noon at 24 city and county fire stations.
