Pandemic Influenza
Get Informed. Be Prepared.
General Information
“With
recent media reports on the potential of an influenza (flu) pandemic -
which means a worldwide outbreak of flu – it is critical for citizens to
stay informed on the possibility of a flu pandemic. Scientists think
that the current H5N1 virus – which is called ‘bird flu’ and ‘avian flu’
may become a flu pandemic. Sedgwick County is working with
federal, state, and other local government agencies to respond to pandemic
influenza and to maintain essential health care and community services if an
outbreak should occur. It is important to remember that should an outbreak
occur, you will find the most up to date information by tuning into your local
media and by visiting the Sedgwick County website, www.sedgwickcounty.org.
Preventing the Spread
Individual action and responsibility
are necessary for the success of any measure. You should take action
to protect yourself and your family, as well as the greater community through prevention
techniques, especially if anyone in your family becomes ill. See the
Pan Flu Toolkit below for flyers and posters to
help spread the word about preventing the spread of influenza.
