Sedgwick County Prescription Discount Card
Frequently Asked Questions

Who would benefit from using the Prescription Discount Card?

This plan is not insurance. If you have prescription drug coverage already, this card will not reduce the prescription costs. If you have Medicaid or HealthWave coverage, the card will not reduce your costs. However, if you are uninsured, have health insurance that does not provide a prescription benefit, or have Medicare with no supplemental prescription drug coverage, this card may reduce your cost for prescription drugs.

How does the card work?

There is no registration, no forms to complete. Simply pick up one card per family. You can use the card immediately when your prescription is not covered by insurance. Present the card at any participating pharmacy at the point of purchase.

Is there an initial or ongoing membership fee to use this card?

No. Your prescription card is provided to you free of charge by Sedgwick County Government.

What will I save if I use the card?

If you are currently paying full price for prescription drugs, this card may provide an average savings of 13% on brand name medications and an average savings of 35% on generics. The overall average savings is approximately 18%. Additional savings may be realized by using the mail service program, which offers an average savings of 50% on a 3-month supply of select medications. For details on the mail service program and other available discounts, please refer to the brochure you received with your card. (In Sedgwick County, individuals receive a discount 80% of the time when the card is presented.)

Will I always receive the lowest price?

Yes, you will receive the best price available to you through this program at that pharmacy on that day. On occasion, pharmacies will price a particular medication lower than the discount rate provided by the card. If that occurs, you will receive the lower price.

Where can I use the cards?

The discount cards are accepted by over 80 pharmacies in Sedgwick County. Discounts are only available at participating pharmacies.

How is Sedgwick County able to offer this prescription drug discount card?
Sedgwick County is a member of the National Association of Counties (NACo). NACo has partnered with one of the largest prescription benefit managers in the nation to provide the prescription drug discount card to NACo members.

When does the program end?

This discount card is a NACo sponsored program. It is anticipated that the program will continue and there is no expiration date on the card.

Can I use this card to get discounts on my pet’s medications?

Yes, if your pet has been prescribed a medication, you may receive a discount on the medication by taking the prescription to a participating retail pharmacy.

Who do I contact if I have further questions?

If you have questions that were not answered above; you would like to provide feedback on the program; or you'd like a stock of cards to provide clients, friends or family, contact Rachelle Moody at rmoody@sedgwick.gov or 660-7673.
