Personal Savings Story:
Bob* does not have health insurance and
typically receives his medications free of charge through a local non-profit
medical assistance program. Recently, his physician changed his required
medication, resulting in two prescriptions that would not provided by the
program. Bob remembered he had received a Prescription Discount Card in 2006,
but had never used it. When he went to purchase the medications at his local
pharmacy, he discovered he could save $9 and $13 on his respective medications.
Bob reports that the Card was easy to use and the pharmacy staff knew just what
to do, making his experience using the card easy and enjoyable. He couldn’t
believe the card still "worked" because he has had it for two years, and was
happy it had not expired!
Pet Savings Story:
Kathy* recently learned that her Doberman
Pinscher, Sammy, has high blood pressure. The medication to treat this condition
costs about $35 a month. Sammy also has to eat a certain type of dog food that
is only available from the veterinary clinic and is quite expensive. Paying an
additional $35 a month to keep Sammy healthy would be a significant additional
expense for Kathy; and she debated whether or not she could afford it. Kathy
decided to go ahead and purchase Sammy’s necessary medication and was thrilled
to learn that not only could she purchase it from the local pharmacy, but she
could also use the Sedgwick County Prescription Discount Card to save 60% a
month. With the Sedgwick County Prescription Discount Card, Sammy's medication
costs Kathy about $13 a month, which is a huge relief.
