
Lake Afton Park occupies a 720-acre site
25 miles southwest of Wichita and offers a wide range of activities for the adventurist as
well as the family. The Park includes a 258-acre lake on land once inhabited by the
Kiowa, Comanche, Wichita, Osage and Southern Cheyenne Indian tribes.
Construction of Lake Afton was started in 1939 and completed in 1942, by the
WPA work force.
2007 Park Fee Schedule
Recreational Permits: A valid
recreational permit is required to use a motor vehicle
within Lake Afton Park and shall be prominently
displayed on the vehicle. The Park Superintendent
shall issue daily and annual permits. Permits may
be purchased from a designated fixed location within the
park at the following rates.
- Daily Recreational Permit (valid until noon
of the following calendar day purchased) -
$3.00
- NOTE: Daily recreational permits
purchased from park employees not at a fixed
location will be assessed an addition fifty cents
($.50) per permit.
- Annual Recreational Permit (valid for the
calendar year) - $25.00 / additional vehicles
having same ownership $12.50
Exceptions: A recreational permit shall
not be required during certain days each year when large
events are held. Those dates will be posted in a
prominent location at park entrances. A
recreational permit is not required on vehicles operated
by staff, vendors or visitors of the Judge Riddel Boy's
Ranch, Shooting Range, or Observatory unless
those persons are actively involved in recreation on the
Lake Afton premises.
