Manager's Message

October 15, 2014

One thing I have learned in my career in public service is to always embrace change.  Well, I have one of the biggest changes in front of me — I have informed the BOCC of my intention to retire July 1, 2015.   I must tell you I am embracing this opportunity with open arms.  It is simply time.

My wife and I have been thinking, talking and praying about this for several months.  We are fortunate to both have good health and now we wish to spend the next phase of our lives with our children and granddaughters in Philadelphia, Omaha and Tucson.

It was a thrill for me to come to Sedgwick County in 1991.  I have had 24 wonderful years working with dedicated public servants, always striving to deliver quality public services.  Next year, I will be 70 and will have more than 47 years in my public service career.  It is simply time for me to move on and time for Sedgwick County Government to do so as well.

I want to thank the current and previous commissioners for the honor and privilege I have had in serving them and the citizens of Sedgwick County.  How fortunate we are in this community to have people willing to serve as elected officials.  With their leadership, all of us in the organization have had the opportunity to address the needs of our community, sometimes in new and exciting ways, and sometimes when we’ve struggled with financial challenges.  But, it has all been good and has made us all better.

I am blessed and grateful to have worked with dedicated public servants who exemplify our values every day and work together collaboratively to make great things happen.
