Weekly Update
The Democratic and Republican Conventions are the precursor to the big day in November when we each have the opportunity for our voices to be heard in the democratic process. As with any Presidential election, we expect that voter turnout will be high. Walter H. Judd, Congressional representative from Minnesota, said many years ago – “People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people. Of course, that is not true. Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote - a very different thing.”
This week, Election Commissioner Bill Gale will be sending a mailer to all registered voters to encourage advance voting and to request an application for a mail-in ballot. These are opportunities for more people to participate in the election process, with greater convenience and to reduce standing in lines at the polls. We each have an awesome privilege and responsibility to vote. The excuses of “I’m too busy,” “I don’t have time,” “It’s not on my way,” or “I don’t like standing in line” can be eliminated through these other means of voting.
I hope you are a registered voter. And, I hope you will take advantage of advance voting either by mail-in ballot or in-person. Most importantly, I hope you will exercise your right as a citizen of this great nation to vote, and help define our future ... November 4 is right around the corner.
