ADA Self Evaluation & Transition Plan
Sedgwick
County is dedicated to public programs, activities and
services, which are free of discrimination based on
disability. The
following
Self Evaluation and
Transition
Plan documents have been developed to establish in written
policy Sedgwick County’s commitment to nondiscrimination
based on disability and to comply fully with the letter and
spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section
504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Both documents have been prepared by Sedgwick County in
consultation with Disability Management Consulting Group,
d.b.a, ADA Accrediting & Consulting, Sedgwick County’s ADA
Coordinator, and the Sedgwick County ADA Internal Compliance
Team. A preliminary draft has been reviewed by the
Wichita/Sedgwick County Access Advisory Board (WSCAAB), and
the WSCAAB will also review the entirety of this document
and provide recommendations pertaining to its language and
content.
The Self-Evaluation provides a comprehensive review of
County policies and procedures, with recommendations for
improving program access. The Transition Plan document
contains ADA surveys of all County facilities, identifying
any structural modifications necessary for the removal of
barriers to program accessibility. Together, these documents
are intended to provide a plan for ensuring accessibility to
Sedgwick County’s programs, services, and facilities.
These documents are being provided in draft form so the public may have the opportunity to review, comment, and participate fully in the planning process. Please note that hyperlinks within the document are not active because to do so would create a file too large for public dissemination. Public comment and feedback is encouraged. All public comments will be recorded and provided to the County’s ADA Internal Compliance Team. The County will review all comments received from the public and where appropriate or feasible modify the documents to accommodate the public recommendations.
The documents are also available in audio format through the Air Capital Telephone Reader at 316-337-7700. The documents can be found in Publication 9, Category 24. Users without an Air Capital Telephone Reader account may use the code 1234 to access the site.
Public forum meetings on the Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan are planned to receive public comment as follows:
-
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 9:00 A.M. during the Board of County Commission Meeting in the Commission Meeting Room, located on the 3rd floor of the Sedgwick County Courthouse, 525 N. Main.
-
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 6:30 P.M. in the Jury Room, located on the 1st floor of the Sedgwick County Courthouse, 525 N. Main. Individuals should use the north entrance on Elm Street to enter the Courthouse for this event.
-
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in these events, should contact the Sedgwick County ADA Coordinator as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.
