It has been an honor to serve as your Sheriff since 2001. The Sheriff's Office of today is a much different organization than it was when I started my career as a deputy in 1974. Technology and events such as 9/11 have changed the way the business of law enforcement is conducted. One thing that hasn't changed though is the dedication of the men and women who work for the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office. Five Hundred and twenty-eight people from different backgrounds, gender, race, cultures, educational levels and age come together everyday in affirmation of our mission.
I shall protect and preserve the general safety and welfare of all individuals in Sedgwick County through effective public service. I will maintain the highest level of integrity, fairness and compassion at all times.
To guide us in our efforts we developed a set of core values I would like to share with you. These values make up the acronym IDEALS. This acronym wasn't selected by chance. The definition of ideal includes: a standard of perfection, beauty, or excellence; an ultimate aim of endeavor. What better endeavor could there be for law enforcement to strive for, but a standard of excellence in public service.
Core Values
Integrity – To demonstrate integrity in all I do.
Duty – To uphold my sworn duty and responsibility.
Ethics – To be ethical in my decisions and conduct.
Attitude – To be positive in my words and actions.
Leadership – To lead by example and motivate those around me.
Service – To serve the community with respect and compassion.

Inmate Search
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office now offers “real time” custody and booking information on all inmates held in the custody of the sheriff via internet access. “This new service gives the public access to all information that is considered open to the public without having to call or make a formal request” said Undersheriff Hinshaw.
The inmate search application allows the public to view data on all inmates in custody. The inmate’s location, charges, bond amounts and visitation schedule are all available through a simple name search.
Active Warrants Search
Most active warrants through the district court are now available to view online. According to Sheriff Steed, "We constantly strive to utilize today's technology to accomplish our mission, as well as make information and services more accessible to the public." Placing active warrants online is meant to assist the sheriff's office in serving the more than 11,000 current active warrants. The public can search by name for an active warrant, and find information on how to take care of the outstanding issue. Additionally, they can contact the Sheriff's Office with information on the whereabouts of a wanted person by calling 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316.267.2111, or using the turn-in-a-felon link on the website.
"One of the best tools in law enforcement is the partnership with the public. This philosophy is the cornerstone of the community helping to police themselves", said Sheriff Steed.
