New Sheriff Patrol Vehicle Design

After nearly 17 years, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office is changing the paint scheme of its fleet of patrol vehicles. The award winning design dubbed, “Shamu” by the deputies, will be replaced through attrition with the new design beginning in November 2009.  Read more about the change in design.

Sheriff’s Office is looking for exceptional men and women for volunteer service in the Sheriff’s Reserve

Have you ever thought you would like to help people as a law enforcement officer? If so, Sedgwick County Sheriff Robert Hinshaw is looking for men and women with a strong commitment to community service to become a part of the Sheriff’s Reserve. If you are 21 years of age or older, are in good physical condition and have no criminal background, you may qualify for appointment to this exceptional volunteer organization which has been serving Sedgwick County citizens since 1957. To apply for the Sheriff’s Reserve, please pick up an application packet at the Wichita/Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Training Center located at 37th Street North and Meridian. You can also call 660-3793 and leave a message for a return call from a member of the Sheriff’s Reserve.

Deputy Etheridge Memorial Fund

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian S. Etheridge memorial fund has been established.  Those wishing to donate to this fund can do so at any Intrust bank by stating the donation is for the Brian S. Etheridge memorial fund.

A.L.I.N. Program

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to introduce the Agriculture Livestock Information Network (A.L.I.N). The objective of this program is to more efficiently get information regarding stolen farm equipment, construction equipment and suspicious activities around your farms and businesses distributed across Sedgwick and the surrounding counties. S.E.N.I.O.R.S. program

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to provide Sedgwick County seniors with the S.E.N.I.O.R.S. program. Crisis Intervention Team

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department, Wichita Police Department, Kansas Department of Corrections and local mental health agencies have teamed up to provide more effective public safety services to individuals who suffer from mental illnesses with the creation of the Crisis Intervention Team.

The goal of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is to supplement alternative incarceration programs by learning to identify and redirect persons with mental illnesses away from the jail system and toward available resources.

The 40-hour CIT training includes education about common disorders, substance misuse and abuse, suicide, and negotiating in a crisis situation.

OffenderWatch® is the nation's leading registered sex offender management and community notification tool with hundreds of leading agencies in dozens of states utilizing it. Sedgwick County's law enforcement utilizes OffenderWatch® to manage and monitor the whereabouts, conduct and compliance status of the registered offenders in Sedgwick County. Inmate Search

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office now offers real time” custody and booking information on all inmates held in the custody of the sheriff via internet access.  “This new service gives the public access to all information that is considered open to the public without having to call or make a formal request” said Sheriff Hinshaw.

The inmate search application allows the public to view data on all inmates in custody.  The inmate’s location, charges, bond amounts and visitation schedule are all available through a simple name search.

Active Warrants Search

Most active warrants through the district court are now available to view online. The sheriff’s office is constantly striving to utilize today's technology to accomplish their mission, as well as make information and services more accessible to the public. Placing active warrants online is meant to assist the sheriff's office in serving the more than 11,000 current active warrants. The public can search by name for an active warrant, and find information on how to take care of the outstanding issue. Additionally, they can contact the sheriff's office with information on the whereabouts of a wanted person by calling 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316.267.2111, or using the turn-in-a-felon link on the website.

Criminal Justice Comprehensive Master Plan for Sedgwick County

On November 30, 2005 the Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners was presented the Comprehensive Criminal Justice Master Plan. This plan includes three phases: Design Expansion of the Sedgwick County Jail, Implementation of Alternatives and provide additional details, and Explore booking and housing fees.

Underage Drinking Laws and Driver's Licenses

Did you know...

A parent or guardian, who knowingly permits consumption of alcoholic or cereal malt beverages by persons under the age of 18 on their property, will be charged with a class B person misdemeanor, for which the minimum fine is $200.00.

Young people under the age of 21 who violate Kansas’ Minor in Possession Law multiple times will now find themselves with a suspended drivers license for 90 days (second offense) or one year (third and subsequent offenses). The first conviction results in a 30-day suspension.
