Client Death at Adult Residential & Work Release Programs

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – On Jan. 1, 2024, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a corrections officer conducting a dorm check at the Sedgwick County Department of Corrections Adult Residential & Work Release Programs was notified by a client that another adult residential client was not doing well. The corrections officer found the client unresponsive. Corrections personnel attempted life-saving measures and contacted 911. When EMS and Fire medics arrived, they continued life-saving efforts to revive. The client was declared deceased by EMS.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigations is looking into the death with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division and District Coroner's Office.

The client, a 22-year-old male, was court-assigned to Adult Residential on Dec. 20 after convictions for burglary and theft. The cause of death at this time is undetermined. Sedgwick County will not be releasing the client’s name at this time.
