Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine Approved for Ages 12 and Older

On August 23, the Kansas Department of Health & Environment approved the use of the Novavax COVID- 19 vaccine in 12- to 17-years-olds following FDA and CDC clearance. The vaccine was approved for use in adults age 18 and older on July 20.

The Novavax vaccine is administered in a two-dose primary series with 3-8 weeks between doses; it has not yet been approved as a booster.

Novavax is the first U.S.-approved COVID-19 vaccine based on protein-subunit technology. This technology has been in use for more than 30 years, including today’s vaccines for influenza, whooping cough and shingles.
