Commercial Vehicle Registration Changes

Beginning January 1, 2014 both interstate and intrastate commercial vehicles (farm vehicles not included) will be required to pay−in addition to annual registration fees− an annual commercial vehicle fee, in lieu of the current property tax. Learn more about commercial vehicle registration changes and to determine whether you must change your license tag.

Tag Renewals

Vehicle tag renewals are due by the last day of this month for residents whose last names begin with the letter:   

Operators of non-farm, commercial motor vehicles whose tags must be renewed by Friday, Feb. 28, will not be charged a late fee if their vehicles are registered by March 1.

Vehicle Inspections

The Kansas Highway Patrol is no longer providing out of state VIN inspections at any of the substations. Out-of-State titles, requiring inspection which are NOT “Salvage”, “Rebuilt Salvage”, or using an affidavit or bill of sale are done at the Main Tag Office located at 200 W.
Murdock, Wichita, Ks.

Kansas Titles with the branding of Salvage or Out-of-State titles with the branding of Salvage or Rebuilt Salvage and using an affidavit or bill of sale for an inspection will be performed at the Kansas Highway Patrol inspection office located at:
1900 E. Tigua (Kechi)
HWY 254 and Rock Rd.
Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Hours:  Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Except County Holidays
Vehicle Inspection Hours:  Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. 
Title work is NOT accepted after 4 p.m.

A $3.00 fee will be applied to each transaction handled at any of the tag offices.
