Biography
Jim Skelton was elected to the Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners in 2010 and began his first term as the Fifth District commissioner in January 2011.
Commissioner Skelton has a degree in international business from Wichita State University and has taken graduate level courses in economics.
Some of Commissioner Skelton's priorities include creating citizen district advisory boards, improving solid waste system recycling, and finding long-term solutions to jail overcrowding.
Prior to his election to the commission, Commissioner Skelton served on the Wichita City Council for District 3 for five and a half years. He is a self-employed painting contractor and served in the U.S. Army.
Commissioner Skelton is active in the community and served as chairman of the Sedgwick County Association of Cities.
While on the Wichita City Council, Commissioner Skelton worked on the county and city manager's joint Flood Plain Management Task Force.
