Dog Licensing & Vaccinations
- Dogs and cats in unincorporated areas of Sedgwick County must be vaccinated for rabies.
- Dogs must also be licensed and wear a current tag.
Licensing helps return lost pets to their owners and ensures vaccinations are up to date.
Have the following information ready:
- Your dog’s physical description
- Rabies vaccination date
- Rabies tag number
- Your name, address, and phone number
- When you get a new dog
- When your dog receives a rabies vaccination
- When your license expires
After your application is approved, you will receive:
- A license tag for your dog
- Documentation for your records

Payment options:

- If you mail payment, make the check or money order payable to S.C.A.C. (Sedgwick County Animal Control).

- Provide your dog’s rabies vaccination information

- Pay the license fee at the clinic
Your veterinarian may:
- Submit your information to Animal Control, or
- Give you the license to submit yourself

Dogs that have been determined, declared, or adjudged dangerous or vicious must be licensed directly through Sedgwick County Animal Control.
These dogs cannot be licensed through a veterinarian.
You must also provide one of the following:
- Proof of insurance that covers the animal and lists Sedgwick County Animal Control for cancellation notice, or
- A $300,000 surety bond with the same requirement
You must submit this documentation:
- By email, or
- In person to an Animal Control officer or supervisor

- Complete the dog license application through Animal Control
- Submit the application directly to Animal Control for review and approval
- You must also provide ONE of the following:
- Proof of homeowner’s, renter’s, or other insurance that:
- Covers the ownership of a dangerous or vicious animal
- Covers any acts by the animal
- Lists Sedgwick County Animal Control as a contact to be notified at least 10 days before cancellation; OR
- Proof of homeowner’s, renter’s, or other insurance that:

If the license is approved, you will also need to pay the $100 license fee and renew fees every year, as applicable.
Important Approval Requirement
Sedgwick County Animal Control must receive and review your insurance or surety bond before your license can be approved.
Documents must be:
- Emailed to Animal Control, or
- Reviewed in person by an Animal Control officer or supervisor
