Board of County Commissioners
- Sedgwick County Commissioners approved minutes of the special meeting on March 25, 2026.
- BoCC adopted a proclamation declaring April 2026 as Fair Housing Month.
- Commissioners adopted a proclamation declaring April 6-12, 2026, as National Public Health Week.
- BoCC appointed Jeff Davison to the Sedgwick County Park Township Treasurer position.
- Sedgwick County Commissioners appointed Maddie Orton to the Sedgwick County Aging and Physical Disabilities Advisory Council.
- Commissioners appointed Tim Austin to the Wichita/Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission (MAPC).
- BoCC authorized making improvements to the Regional Forensic Science Center to provide new laboratory areas, repurposing existing areas and paying the estimated cost of $20,371,483 by issuing general obligation bonds once the project is complete, likely in 2028.
- Sedgwick County Commissioners authorized the creation of a benefit district and the construction of road improvements.
- BoCC deferred ZON2025-00057: zone change request in the county from RR Rural Residential to SF-20 Single-Family Residential with protective overlay #474 for two weeks.
- BoCC deferred Item J: budget increase by $25,000 per year to Kansas Legal Services for expansion to the Protection from Abuse (PFA) docket for one month.
- Commissioners approved Item 5 of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on March 26, 2026: NEMA Traffic Signals Retrofit.
- No binding action was taken during an executive session.
Upcoming Events
- The Sedgwick County Early Childhood Coordinating Council will host Grow Together Free Family Play Day on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Great Plains Nature Center. Families can expect food, sensory-focused fun, take home activities, nature exploration and family and child development resources. The first 50 families will receive a free book. - Sedgwick County Environmental Resources will host its free electronic waste collection event from April 23-26 and April 30-May 2, 2026, at the Sedgwick County West Year, 4701 S. West St. Acceptable items include computers, laptops, televisions and more. Electronic Waste Events
- The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place will begin hosting RiverFlix for the 2026 season on April 24. Bring your blankets, snacks and a sense of adventure, with food trucks and seating opening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages. The movie on April 24 will be SING.
