Board of County Commissioners

  • Sedgwick County Commissioners approved minutes from the regular meetings on Feb. 4, Feb. 11 and Feb. 18, 2026.
  • Commissioners adopted a proclamation declaring Red Cross Month.
  • BoCC accepted the resignation of Tyler Arnett from the Park Township Treasurer position.
  • Commissioners reappointed Kevin McWhorter to the Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Advisory Board.
  • BoCC conducted a public hearing and adopted a resolution regarding proposed special assessments from improvement projects in the County.
  • Sedgwick County Commissioners authorized staff to proceed with a sale of general obligation bonds on April 7, within certain parameters. The bonds will reimburse County expenses on multiple facility, bridge, and special assessment projects.  While the County will issue bonds for all of the projects, the debt on the special assessments will be repaid through payments from those property owners over 15 years.
  • Commissioners approved a settlement agreement, including a payment by Sedgwick County of $10,300,000, to resolve all claims within Case Number 2022 CV 01134. Commissioners also authorized the transfer of monies from the County General Fund to the County Risk Management Reserve Fund in order to fund the payment.
  • BoCC approved an extension of the data center interim development control through June 11, 2026.
  • Sedgwick County Commissioners approved the minutes of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on Feb. 26, 2026, with the exception of Item 2: Pre-Cast Reinforced Concrete Box and End Sections, which was deferred.
  • Assistant County Manager Tania Cole provided a legislative update:
    • The legislative session will adjourn March 27.
    • HB 2745: Sedgwick County provided written testimony and Chief Financial Officer Lindsay Poe Rousseau provided oral testimony. The bill would create a property tax funding limit in cases of successful protest petitions and repeal the revenue neutral rate notice and hearing requirements for taxing jurisdictions.
    • HB 2343: The bill would create the No-Impact Home-Based Business Fairness Act, supporting the development and growth of such businesses by limiting the regulatory power of municipalities. Sedgwick County provided written testimony.
  • No binding action was taken during an executive session.

Upcoming Events

  • The Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners will hold a Listening Town Hall regarding data centers Thursday, March 12, at 6 p.m. in the lower level auditorium of the Ruffin Building, 100 N. Broadway.
  • Sedgwick County Emergency Management continues its 2026 Severe Weather Safety Program with its next class Thursday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Derby Public Library. This free program, developed by the National Weather Service, educates citizens about severe weather and ways to stay safe. 2026 Severe Weather Safety Program
  • Exploration Place will host Death by Chocolate, an unforgettable evening of food, drinks and entertainment in support of STEM programs and education, on March 7, 2026.   • Registration is open for the first 2026 CERT Basic Training Weekend class, hosted by Sedgwick County Emergency Management. The course will take place March 27-29 at the Valley Center Library, 314 E. Clay St. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Weekend is designed to educate and empower community members to play a more active role in personal and public safety. In the aftermath of a disaster, professional responders are often spread thin.
