Board of County Commissioners

  • Sedgwick County Commissioners approved minutes of the regular meeting on April 22, 2026.
  • BoCC adopted a proclamation declaring May 17-23, 2026, as National Public Works Week.
  • Commissioners reappointed Sharon Van Horn to the Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Community Advisory Board.
  • BoCC approved the recommendations of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on May 7, 2026.
  • Sedgwick County Commissioners approved Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (MABCD) fee waivers for approved 2026 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects.
  • Commissioners approved the 2026 Sedgwick County Solid Waste Management Plan annual update and approved 2027 solid waste fees to support the plan. The fees will remain flat with 2026 rates, with the base residential fee staying at $4 per year.

Upcoming Events

  • Sedgwick County encourages public feedback on its financial future with the launch of the 2027 Budget Simulator. Residents can provide input on their priorities regarding potential investments for more than 45 departments with just a few clicks. Sedgwick County Budget Simulator
  • The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place is hosting RiverFlix for the 2026 season. The public is invited to bring blankets, snacks and a sense of adventure, with food trucks and seating opening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages.   • The City of Derby will hold its second Third Thursday and Derby Market of 2026 on May 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E. Madison Ave. The event will feature food and drinks, live entertainment, multicultural dancers/entertainers and family-friendly activities, as well as art exhibits at the Derby Public Library, 1600 Walnut Grove Rd.   • Sedgwick County offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day. Emergency services will be available by dialing or texting 911.
  • Registration is open for the second 2026 CERT Basic Training Weekend class, hosted by Sedgwick County Emergency Management. The course will take place June 19-21 at the USD 265 District Conference Center, 315 S. Main in Goddard. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Weekend is designed to educate and empower community members to play a more active role in personal and public safety. In the aftermath of a disaster, professional responders are often spread thin.
