Board of County Commissioners

  • BoCC adopted a proclamation declaring May 17-23, 2026, as EMS Week.
  • BoCC reappointed Hunter Hill and Melissa Webb to the Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Community Advisory Board.
  • BoCC authorized and directed the issuance, sale and delivery of general obligation bonds estimated at $10.57 million. The bonds will reimburse County expenses on multiple facility, bridge and special assessment projects.
  • BoCC approved DER2024-00010: amendment to the July 9, 2009, edition of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Unified Zoning Code regarding Event Centers in the County.
  • BoCC approved DER2024-00015: amendment to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Unified Zoning Code regarding public notification in the City of Wichita, with the modification to also apply the changes to the unincorporated County.
  • BoCC approved DER2026-00001: amendment to the Community Investments Plan 2015-2035 dealing with Urban Scale Density in the Unincorporated County.
  • BoCC approved DER2026-00003: amendment to the Community Investments Plan 2015-2035 dealing with Event Centers in the County.
  • BoCC received and filed a 2026 legislative session recap.

Governing Body of Fire District 1

  • BoCC approved termination of additional automatic and mutual aid response agreements with Cheney, Clearwater, Mt. Hope and Valley Center.

Upcoming Events

  • Sedgwick County encourages public feedback on its financial future with the launch of the 2027 Budget Simulator. Residents can provide input on their priorities regarding potential investments for more than 45 departments with just a few clicks. Sedgwick County Budget Simulator
  • The City of Derby will hold its second Third Thursday and Derby Market of 2026 on May 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E. Madison Ave. The event will feature food and drinks, live entertainment, multicultural dancers/entertainers and family-friendly activities, as well as art exhibits at the Derby Public Library, 1600 Walnut Grove Rd.   • The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place is hosting RiverFlix for the 2026 season. The public is invited to bring blankets, snacks and a sense of adventure, with food trucks and seating opening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages.   • Sedgwick County offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day. Emergency services will be available by dialing or texting 911.
  • The City of Derby will celebrate a High Park ribbon cutting on Friday, May 29, at noon at 2801 E. James St. The additions include a splash pad, new playground and pickleball courts. City of Derby | High Park
