Board of County Commissioners
· Sedgwick County Commissioners approved minutes of the En Banc meeting on March 31, 2026, and approved minutes of the regular meetings on April 1, April 8 and April 15, 2026.
· BoCC adopted a proclamation declaring May 10-16, 2026, as Police Week.
· Commissioners adopted a proclamation declaring the week of May 3, 2026, as Correctional Officers Week.
· BoCC adopted a proclamation proclaiming the second week of May 2026 as Law Week.
· BoCC accepted the resignation of Doug Kutilek from the Wichita-Sedgwick County Food and Farm Council.
· Sedgwick County Commissioners appointed Shanice Gitungo to the Sedgwick County Aging and Physical Disabilities Advisory Council.
· BoCC approved the recommendations of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on April 30, 2026.
· Commissioners deferred DER2025-00015: amendments to the Unified Zoning Code pertaining to public notification for City of Wichita zoning cases for two weeks.
· BoCC approved a budget increase for Kansas Legal Services to expand the Protection from Abuse docket to one full day each week and approved a transfer from the Public Safety Contingency to the District Court’s Operating budget of $25,000 for 2026 costs.
· Commissioners approved an operating agreement for the First Responder Wellness Facility.
· Sedgwick County Commissioners accepted an award for $50,000 from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas for a Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Implementation Grant. Commissioners also established budget authority until the conclusion of the grant term on June 30, 2027, allowing for balance to roll over to the following fiscal year, and authorized implementation of staffing table changes.
· Commissioners approved an extension of the data centers interim development control through Sept. 11, 2026.
· BoCC received and filed a presentation of the quarterly financial report.
Governing Body of Fire District 1
· Sedgwick County Commissioners approved minutes of the regular fire meetings on April 1 and April 15, 2026.
· BoCC approved the termination of the incorporated Automatic and Mutual Aid Response Agreements with Valley Center, Clearwater, Mt. Hope, Colwich and Cheney.
Upcoming Events
· Sedgwick County encourages public feedback on its financial future with the launch of the 2027 Budget Simulator. Residents can provide input on their priorities regarding potential investments for more than 45 departments with just a few clicks. Sedgwick County Budget Simulator
· The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place is hosting RiverFlix for the 2026 season. The public is invited to bring blankets, snacks and a sense of adventure, with food trucks and seating opening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages. · The City of Derby will hold its second Third Thursday and Derby Market of 2026 on May 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E. Madison Ave. The event will feature food and drinks, live entertainment, multicultural dancers/entertainers and family-friendly activities, as well as art exhibits at the Derby Public Library, 1600 Walnut Grove Rd.
