Board of County Commissioners
· BoCC approved minutes from the regular meetings on Sept. 16 and Sept. 23, 2026.
· BoCC adopted a proclamation declaring Oct. 12-16, 2026, as Family Promise Week.
· BoCC accepted the resignation of Brian Rohlroff from the Wichita Airport Advisory Board.
· BoCC accepted the resignation of Lexi Michael from the Wichita-Sedgwick County Food and Farm Council.
· BoCC appointed Catherine Johnson to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Food and Farm Council.
· BoCC accepted the resignation of Jim Grocholski from the Sedgwick County Mental Health Advisory Board.
· BoCC appointed Cayla Wasson to the Sedgwick County Mental Health Advisory Board.
· BoCC appointed Andrew Bowman to the Salem Township Trustee position.
· BoCC approved the recommendations of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on Oct. 1, 2026.
· BoCC approved an amendment to the Kansas Highway Patrol-Sedgwick County joint aircraft hangar memorandum of understanding that clarified long-term lease cost expectations.
· BoCC approved a funding agreement between the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County related to the operations of the Metropolitan Area Building & Construction Department (MABCD), following the City’s unanimous approval Oct. 6, 2026.
Governing Body of Fire District 1
· BoCC approved minutes from the fire meetings on Sept. 23, 2026.
· BoCC approved a template for mutual aid and fire aid agreements, with the Chairman to have signature authority through Oct. 14, 2026.
Upcoming Events
· The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place is hosting RiverFlix for the 2026 season. The public is invited to bring blankets, snacks and a sense of adventure, with food trucks and seating opening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages. The movie on Oct. 9 will be ‘Wicked For Good.’ RiverFlix at Exploration Place
· The Sedgwick County Health Department will host the 2026 Fall Community Baby Shower & Resource Fair will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m.-noon at 1900 E. 9th St. N. in Wichita. Registered attendees can view a safe sleep demonstration and receive a free portable crip. SCHD Community Baby Shower
· Sedgwick County Zoo’s Asian lantern festival is back to illuminate the Zoo in an unforgettable display of and artistry. This fall, Wild Lights features never-before-seen, beautiful displays of plants, animals and other creatures – all rooted in Zigong, a centuries-old Chinese tradition of lantern making. Wild Lights will run from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, Oct. 14–Dec. 20 Wild Lights at Sedgwick County Zoo
· Sedgwick County Emergency Management will host its final Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Weekend from Oct. 16-18 at Sedgwick County Park.
