Statement of Non-Discrimination

Sedgwick County does not discriminate in its employment practices, or in the delivery of services or programs, on the basis of race, color, sex, including pregnancy, gender identity and sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry or citizenship, marital status, religious or political affiliation, genetic information, disability, status as a member of the uniformed services, opposition to prohibited discrimination, participation in a discrimination complaint process, or other categories specifically protected by Kansas and federal law. To support this commitment, Sedgwick County has two related policies:

  • Non-Discrimination in Programs and Activities, which explains your rights and how to request reasonable accommodations or file a discrimination complaint.
  • Language Access Plan, which explains how the County provides interpretation, translation, and other language assistance at no cost for individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).

How to File a Non-Discrimination Complaint

Program beneficiaries may file a complaint if they believe they were denied language assistance (including translation) or services in violation of Sedgwick County’s Non-Discrimination Policy.

Eligibility to File a Complaint

A complaint may be filed if:

  • The alleged incident occurred within a Sedgwick County facility; or
  • The incident occurred off-premises but involved a Sedgwick County employee acting in an official capacity while on duty.

Filing Deadline

Complaints must be submitted within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination.

How to Submit a Complaint

Complaints must be filed in writing using one of the following methods:

  • Online: Complete the Discrimination Complaint Form
  • In Person: Complete the form in the Sedgwick County Manager’s Office

What Information Is Required

The Discrimination Complaint Form will ask for:

  • Name of the complainant
  • Contact information for the complainant
  • A description of the alleged discrimination, including:
    • Date
    • Location
    • Approximate time
  • Names of any witnesses or individuals who can support the allegation
  • Contact information for any witnesses
