Man Arrested After Injuring Deputy, Damaging Patrol Vehicles During Arrest Attempt in Oaklawn

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a Bel Aire man Saturday after he injured a deputy, damaged two patrol vehicles and fled from deputies during an arrest attempt in Oaklawn.

At approximately 11:09 a.m. on June 13, 2026, deputies patrolling the Oaklawn area received a license plate reader alert on a vehicle associated with a wanted individual parked at a local business in the 3600 block of East 47th Street South. Deputies identified the individual as Ladell De'Anthony Grant, 29, of Bel Aire.

As deputies attempted to arrest Grant, he ran to his vehicle and got into the driver's seat. During a struggle with deputies, Grant placed the vehicle in reverse and struck a patrol vehicle, causing disabling damage. He then accelerated out of the parking lot, struck a second patrol vehicle, and fled the area.

A deputy involved in the arrest attempt suffered minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

Law enforcement officers did not pursue Grant following the incident.

Using Flock Safety technology, law enforcement agencies tracked Grant's vehicle to the area of I-235 and Seneca. Deputies later found the vehicle crashed into a utility pole near 33rd Street South and Seneca.

Deputies established a perimeter, and Kansas Highway Patrol Air Support assisted in the search before Grant surrendered and deputies took him into custody in the 1200 block of West 34th Street South.

Deputies transported Grant to a local hospital for evaluation before booking him into the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility on charges of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, battery of a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer, criminal damage to property, narcotics violations, and an outstanding warrant through Bel Aire Municipal Court.

The case remains under investigation. Detectives will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office for charging consideration.
