Off-Duty Sedgwick County Detention Deputy Arrested
WICHITA, Kan. — An off-duty Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office detention deputy was arrested Tuesday evening by the Wichita Police Department (WPD) following an alleged physical altercation with another off-duty detention deputy.
The incident was reported to WPD at 3:48 p.m. July 21, 2026, at an apartment complex in the 9000 block of E. Lincoln.
Following its investigation, WPD arrested Deputy Henry C. Kavenga, 39, of Wichita and booked him into the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility on misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property.
Deputy Kavenga has been employed by the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office since September 2025. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigation. Because the criminal and internal investigations remain active, no additional information is available for release at this time.
