Sheriff’s Office, DEA Partner for Prescription Drug Take Back Day

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will partner with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, to host National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations across Sedgwick County.

The event gives community members a safe, convenient, and anonymous way to dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired medications. Proper disposal helps prevent prescription drug misuse and keeps medications out of the hands of children and others without a valid prescription.

Deputies will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Collection sites also will accept liquid medications, including cough syrup, when they remain sealed in their original containers with caps tightly secured to prevent leakage.

Drop-off locations include:

  • Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 W. Zoo Blvd.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 801 W. Stillwell
  • Oaklawn Activity Center, 4904 S. Clifton

Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs.

The service is free, and no identification is required.

For more information or to find additional prescription drug take-back locations in the Wichita and Sedgwick County area, visit www.dea.gov/takebackday.
