Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash

PECK, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash that occurred on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in south Sedgwick County.

At approximately 4 p.m., deputies, along with Mulvane EMS and Sedgwick County Fire District 1, responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 11800 block of South Meridian.

Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian, identified as 15-year-old Connor Dane Chavez-Garcia of the area, died at the scene.

Detectives and the Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Team are investigating the incident. Based on preliminary information, investigators believe Chavez-Garcia was attempting to cross Meridian in front of his home when a 2000 Ford F-350 pickup pulling a small grain hopper trailer struck him.

At this time, investigators do not believe speed or impairment contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the Chavez-Garcia family and the victim’s classmates during this difficult time.
