Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Accidental Shooting in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accidental shooting that occurred Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in Clearwater.

At approximately 10:07 a.m., officers with the Clearwater Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of North 4th Street. When officers arrived, they located 37-year-old Cody Shane Spencer, who was living in a trailer on the property, with an apparent gunshot wound to his leg.

Sedgwick County EMS responded to the scene and pronounced Spencer dead.

The Clearwater Police Department requested that the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

On April 30, an autopsy was conducted at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center. The manner of death was determined to be accidental.

The investigation into the circumstances of the incident remains ongoing, and no foul play is suspected.
