Sheriff's Office Investigates Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Near Bel Aire

BEL AIRE, Kan. – The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning near Bel Aire.

At approximately 1:44 a.m. July 12, 2026, Sedgwick County Emergency Communications received an iPhone Crash Detection notification in the 3200 block of North Greenwich Road but was unable to make contact with the subscriber. Deputies and Bel Aire police officers responded and located a Honda Accord that had rolled multiple times. The driver and sole occupant, identified as 19-year-old Israel Nava of Wichita, had been ejected from the vehicle.

Sedgwick County EMS and Sedgwick County Fire District 1 responded and took over life-saving efforts. Despite those efforts, Nava died at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, Nava was traveling northbound on Greenwich Road when he left the roadway, striking a street sign, a fire hydrant and an electrical box before the vehicle rolled multiple times. Witnesses estimated Nava's speed exceeded 100 mph.

Deputies are also determining whether impairment contributed to the crash.
