Fire District 1, ATF investigating fire in Park City
(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Shortly before 4:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, a house fire with occupants trapped was reported at 6656 N. Kerman in Park City, Kansas. First arriving fire crews from Sedgwick County Fire District 1 (SCFD 1) found a single-family home with heavy smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters located one occupant in the home, and he was safely removed. The occupant told firefighters six other family members were in the house.
Firefighters immediately began to search for additional people in the home, while also deploying to control the fire. As additional units were requested and arrived, including units from the Wichita Fire Department (WFD), search efforts intensified.
During the search, a crew from the WFD fell through the floor of the home and into the basement. A “mayday”, which is a term firefighters use when they need help, was called. The firefighters were able to self-evacuate with some assistance from other crews. The firefighters were checked for injuries on scene by Sedgwick County EMS and were later released to return to work.
The search efforts were hampered by excessive storage in the home. All but one occupant of the home had already evacuated the structure prior to the arrival of the fire department and had gone down the block to get out of the weather without telling their family member. No other injuries were reported. The house sustained severe damage and is a total loss. Dollars losses for the home and its contents are being tabulated.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Investigators from SCFD 1 and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will be on scene for the rest of this morning examining the fire.
