Media Advisory: Fire District 1 to Introduce K9 Latitude Nov. 17

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Sedgwick County Fire District 1 (SCFD1) invites members of the media to attend a press conference introduction for Latitude, a highly trained 18-month-old Black Labrador Retriever preparing to join SCFD1’s Fire Investigation Unit as an ATF Accelerant Detection Canine. Latitude’s handler, SCFD 1 Captain Maroun Faissal, will lead a live demonstration showcasing his skills Monday, Nov. 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Station 32, 7750 N. Wyandotte Way in Park City.

K9 Latitude recently graduated from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Training Center in Virginia. Captain Faissal and Latitude underwent an intensive six-week course together where they trained in different scenarios, learning to identify and detect ignitable liquids. They will assist fire investigators in Sedgwick County and around the State of Kansas.
