Sedgwick County District Court to Increase Fees
(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – The 18th Judicial District Court has announced it will increase fees to support the office’s operational expenses. Effective Feb. 1, 2026, the 18th Judicial District Court Trustee will increase its fees by 0.5%, bringing the fee to a total of 4%.
“The administrative costs of facilities, technological advancements and employment benefits have increased dramatically in the past number of years,” said Carl G. Wheeler, Court Trustee. “The Office of the Court Trustee is simply no longer able to sustain these administrative costs utilizing the current fee structure. This fee remains less than the amount allowed by statute and remains comparable to the majority of fees charged by trustees throughout Kansas.”
K.S.A 20-380 authorizes the Court Trustee to collect a fee, not to exceed 5% of support collected, to defray the office’s operational expenses.
The goal will be for the fee to be equally charged, resulting in a 0.25% increase to each party. The minimal impact to parties will allow the Trustee’s office to continue to process the high volume of cases while maintaining accurate records.
