(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – For the 19th consecutive year, Sedgwick County’s Division of Finance has earned the prestigious award - Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the United States and Canada. This honor recognizes the ability of Accounting staff to pull relevant information for the general public from Sedgwick County’s 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and then prepare a summary in laymen’s terms that is easy to access and understand.
"My Accounting team knows that government financials can be complicated and hard to decipher for the average taxpayer, so we work hard to communicate the most important facts and figures in the simplest terms from Sedgwick County’s yearly financial report,” said Hope Hernandez, Sedgwick County Accounting Director. “We want residents to understand how their tax dollars are being spent and to engage them in the process.”
What makes this award even more impressive, Sedgwick County’s Division of Finance only qualifies for this distinction because it first received the Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 2023 ACFR, a more in-depth audit report.
“I cannot put into words how grateful I am to have a Finance team who routinely performs at the highest level, always exemplifying dedication and a commitment to accuracy and transparency in government accounting,” said Lindsay Poe Rousseau, Chief Financial Officer for Sedgwick County. “This award should reassure citizens that Sedgwick County finances are meticulously documented and open for public review.”
