Board of County Commissioners

  • BoCC approved the minutes of the special meeting on July 29, 2026.
  • BoCC accepted the resignation of Laura Adkins from the Salem Township Trustee position.
  • BoCC approved consent agenda Items C-N with exception of Item I: resolution rescinding the county's role within the Wichita/Sedgwick County Access Advisory Board. The item was deferred to the regular meeting on Oct. 14.
  • BoCC approved the recommendations of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on Aug. 6, 2026.
  • BoCC approved ZON2026-00021: zone change request in the County from RR Rural Residential to GC General Commercial, generally located on the southwest corner of West 55th Street South and South 375th Street West.
  • BoCC approved CON2026-00038: conditional use request in the county for outdoor recreation and entertainment on an RR Rural Residential property at 7931 W. 53rd N, with modified conditions.
  • BoCC approved CON2026-00066: conditional use request in the county to allow a church or place of worship of less than 20 acres on a RR Rural Residential property at 12521 E. 63rd N. with the recommended modifications and an updated site plan.
  • BoCC approved the donation of 45 portable cribs from KIDS Network to the health department for distribution to families in Sedgwick County as part of safe sleep initiatives through the Healthy Babies program.
  • BoCC approved a plat for Deer View Estates.
  • No binding action was taken during an executive session.

Governing Body of Fire District 1

  • BoCC approved the minutes of the special meeting on July 29, 2026.
  • BoCC approved a temporary continuation of certain fire aid agreements until Sept. 23, 2026, with Cheney, Clearwater, Mt. Hope and Valley Center.

Upcoming Events

  • The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place is hosting RiverFlix for the 2026 season. The public is invited to bring blankets, snacks and a sense of adventure, with food trucks and seating opening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages. The movie on Aug. 14 will be ‘Frozen’ RiverFlix at Exploration Place
  • The City of Derby is celebrating the end of summer at Third Thursday and Derby Market on Aug. 20 from 5-8 p.m. at Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E.   • Sedgwick County residents are encouraged to attend the final public budget hearing on Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. in the lower-level auditorium of the Ruffin Building, 100 N. Broadway. Residents can also give feedback using the online public forum until Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. Budget adoption is scheduled for August 26, following the public hearing and revenue neutral rate hearing. 2027 Recommended Budget

The Zoo’s premier fundraiser takes place Saturday, Sept. 12, from 6 p.m.-midnight.
