Board of County Commissioners

  • BoCC approved meeting minutes from the June 30 En Banc, July 1, 8 and 15 regular meetings.
  • BoCC approved a proclamation declaring Aug. 2026 as National Emergency Management Awareness Month.
  • BoCC approved a proclamation declaring Aug. 2-8, 2026, as National Health Center Week.
  • BoCC appointed Jennifer Burian to the Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Community Advisory Board in the at-large 3rd Class City position.
  • BoCC approved the recommendations of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on July 30, 2026.
  • BoCC received a presentation of the Quarterly Financial Report.
  • BoCC held a public hearing and approved the petition to include a property within the boundaries of the Sedgwick County Fire District 1.
  • BoCC denied CON2026-0039: conditional use request in the county to permit utility, major for a solar energy conversion system on properties zoned rural residential, SF-20 single-family residential and limited commercial generally bounded by S. 119th Street W., W. 47th Street S., S. Ridge Rd. and W. 63rd Street S.
  • BoCC denied CON2026-0048: conditional use request in the county to permit utility, major for a solar energy conversion system on properties zoned rural residential, generally located between W. 71st Street S. and W. 87th Street S., between S. 151st Street W. and S. 103rd Street W.

Governing Body of Fire District 1

  • BoCC approved the minutes of the regular fire meeting on June 15, 2026.
  • BoCC approved the recommendations of the Board of Bids and Contracts’ regular meeting on July 30, 2026.

Upcoming Events

  • The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place is hosting RiverFlix for the 2026 season. The public is invited to bring blankets, snacks and a sense of adventure, with food trucks and seating opening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages. The movie on Aug. 7 will be ‘Monsters Inc.’ RiverFlix at Exploration Place
  • The Kansas Sunflower Summer program for 2026 is extended through Saturday, August 8. It provides free admission to over 200 state attractions for Kansas residents with pre-k through 12th-grade students, covering entry for the student and one accompanying adult guardian. Sunflower Summer
  • Sedgwick County residents are encouraged to attend public budget hearings on July 29 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. in the lower-level auditorium of the Ruffin Building, 100 N. Broadway. Residents can also give feedback using the online public forum until Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. Budget adoption is scheduled for August 26, following the public hearing and revenue neutral rate hearing. 2027 Recommended Budget | Sedgwick County, Kan.
