Changes to Inmate Mail and Communication Services at Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — Beginning Monday, June 16, the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility is upgrading its inmate communication and mail systems to improve security and better connect inmates with their families and friends. These changes are being made in partnership with a third-party contractor, ICS Corrections, Inc. (ICS).

Inmate Telephone Service
The inmate telephone service update will take place on June 16 with a short interruption in service while ICS completes the necessary upgrades to each housing unit.

Inmate Video Visitation
Upgrades to the inmate video visitation systems are more complex and will take longer to complete. Starting Monday, June 23, all in-house and remote video visitation systems will be taken out of service while the upgrades are completed. This is expected to take one week, and services will resume on Monday, June 30.

Costs
All costs associated with the inmate communications systems are paid to ICS and no proceeds from any of the services provided go to the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office or Sedgwick County Government.

The following are the services provided by ICS and the usage rates:

Keep Families Connected Program

Two free calls + two free messages per inmate each week

Inmate Calling (U.S)      

$0.015 (1.5 cents) per minute

Inmate Calling (International)

Cost* + $0.015 (1.5 cents) per minute

Remote Video Visitation

$0.11 (11 cents) per minute

Streaming Tablet Content

$0.03 (3 cents) per minute (Jail Annex ONLY)

Email/Photo Sharing     

$0.05 (5 cents) per message/photo

Voice Messaging

$0.05 (5 cents) per message

*For international calls, "cost" means the underlying ICS carrier cost based on an average rate per minute per destination calculated quarterly pursuant to FCC 47 CFR § 64.6030 (e).

Sending Personal Mail to Inmates
Starting June 30, all personal mail for inmates must be sent to a new processing center, not directly to the jail.

Mail will be scanned and delivered digitally to the inmate. Inmates cannot receive parcels or packages—only standard personal letters and photos.

Important: Any personal mail sent directly to the jail after June 30, 2025, will be returned to the sender.
