Inmate Death Under Investigation at Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility
WICHITA, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a male inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell Monday night at the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility.
Deputies discovered the inmate at approximately 11:04 p.m. on July 28, 2025. Detention staff and on-site medical personnel immediately began life-saving measures. Sedgwick County EMS and the Wichita Fire Department responded and transported him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at 12:07 a.m. on July 29.
The inmate had been in custody at the facility since July 15 on charges of aggravated robbery.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been notified, and sheriff’s detectives are conducting a thorough investigation. Preliminary evidence indicates the death was the result of suicide through self-asphyxiation.
This incident marks the fourth in-custody death at the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility in 2025.
