Sedgwick County Deputy Honored as KSA Detention Deputy of the Year

MULVANE, Kan. – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that Deputy Paul Scarpitta has been named the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association (KSA) Detention Deputy of the Year. The award was presented Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, during the KSA Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the Kansas Star Casino.

Earlier this year, Deputy Scarpitta was seriously injured during an unprovoked attack while performing his duties in the Sedgwick County Jail. Despite suffering severe burns and other injuries, he demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism, taking swift action to regain control of the situation and ensure the safety of others.

“Deputy Scarpitta’s courage and composure under extreme circumstances represent the finest qualities of our profession,” said Sheriff Jeff Easter. “We are proud to have him as part of our team and grateful for his dedication to serving our community.”

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office congratulates Deputy Scarpitta on this well-deserved honor and thanks the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association for recognizing his outstanding service.
