Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office to Celebrate Detention Academy Class 1 Graduation

WICHITA, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will celebrate the graduation of the 2026 Detention Academy Class 1 during a commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Evangel Assembly of God Church, 11444 W. 21st St. N., Wichita.

The ceremony will recognize 16 new deputies who have completed 10 weeks of intensive basic academy training. The training covered topics including interpersonal communication, policies and procedures, legal issues, computer systems, and defensive tactics.

Sheriff Jeff Easter will welcome the graduates to the Sheriff’s Office, marking the beginning of their careers as detention deputies. Following graduation, the recruits will begin field training, working alongside veteran deputies in the detention facility.

A reception for the graduates, their families, friends, and honored guests will follow the ceremony.
